As an implementing partner of the EU funded Lebanon Innovate program, led by Berytech, ELCIM at the Industrial Research Institute (IRI) has been working with Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) to strengthen its Technology Transfer Office (TTO) and turn academic research into real world innovation.
At USJ, research sits at the center of the university’s mission. Joining Lebanon Innovate, with the support of the European Union, and establishing a dedicated Technology Transfer Office reflects USJ’s commitment to transforming research outcomes into innovative solutions and meaningful societal impact.
USJ’s TTO follows a clear strategy: identifying promising research, protecting its value, and connecting it with partners who can turn it into real world applications. Lebanon Innovate, funded by the European Union with the support of ELCIM at IRI, provides the framework that makes this process structured and sustainable.
This support has moved one of USJ’s projects a genuine step forward, from concept toward application, giving the university the structure needed to develop its idea seriously and turn it into something that reaches people. A project from USJ’s Faculty of Dental Medicine began as an academic idea and is now becoming a real, applicable solution with the potential to directly improve patient care, a clear example of how the TTO model is translating university research into tangible outcomes.
Operating in a challenging context marked by ongoing instability in Lebanon, this progress demonstrates that innovation in Lebanon is possible. With a structured Technology Transfer Office in place, USJ is positioned to keep developing projects that make a genuine difference.
