With the support of Lebanon Innovate, an EU-funded programme led by Berytech and implemented by ELCIM at the Industrial Research Institute (IRI), Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU) has taken a significant step towards strengthening its innovation ecosystem through the establishment of its Technology Transfer Office (TTO) at the institutional level.
The new TTO aims to bridge the gap between research and real-world application by identifying promising ideas emerging from NDU’s laboratories and classrooms and supporting their journey towards market readiness. As part of this effort, NDU plans to advance three to four high-potential projects from its research portfolio, creating flagship examples of university-driven innovation and impact.
Beyond research commercialisation, NDU is also fostering a culture of creativity, entrepreneurship, and problem-solving across its academic community. Faculty and students are developing innovative teaching approaches, including gamification, to enhance engagement and encourage new ways of learning.
The establishment of the TTO responds to a key challenge faced by universities: promising innovations can often remain within academic environments without receiving the support needed to reach their full potential. By identifying these opportunities earlier and providing structured guidance, the TTO will help transform ideas into innovations with tangible societal and economic impact.
Through Lebanon Innovate, universities across Lebanon are being supported to strengthen their technology transfer capacities, protect intellectual property, develop innovation pathways, and connect research with market opportunities.
NDU’s TTO marks another step towards building a stronger university innovation ecosystem in Lebanon, enabling researchers and students to move beyond ideas and research to develop solutions that can create meaningful impact.
