Through Lebanon Innovate, an EU-funded programme led by Berytech and implemented by ELCIM at the Industrial Research Institute (IRI) Lebanon, USEK’s Technology Transfer Office is helping researchers transform scientific ideas into innovative solutions with social and economic impact.
Established in 2022, the USEK Technology Transfer Office (TTO) was strengthened through Lebanon Innovate, the EU-funded programme led by Berytech, in partnership with ELCIM at the Industrial Research Institute (IRI) Lebanon. The initiative supports researchers and innovators in transforming scientific discoveries into solutions with social and economic impact.
At USEK, the TTO is helping build stronger bridges between academia, industry, and society by providing researchers and innovators with the support and connections they need to advance their ideas.
One example is LIESTEC, a smart assistive game developed to support blind and visually impaired individuals. With support from the USEK TTO, the project team validated its prototype with NGOs serving blind and visually impaired people, conducted market research, carried out a deep prior art search, and connected with expert mentors.
The TTO has also supported inventors in advancing their innovations from research to practical application. Together with co-inventor Professor Nabil Lemer, one inventor used TTO support for prior art research, market research, and advisory boards while implementing the Landscape Sustainability Assessment Tool in real landscape sites across Lebanon and neighbouring countries.
Through this work, the USEK Technology Transfer Office is helping turn talent and ideas into innovation, while strengthening the links between research, industry, and society.
